2026/1/20 Prof. Yasufumi Fujiwara (Our invited speaker, Ritsumeikan Univ.) has won the Akasaki Prize (Compound Semiconductor Electronics Achievement Award from JSAP) for his development of the GaN:Eu3+, red LED with high wavelength stability <0.001nm/K.

This award was established with a donation of prize money from Prof. Isamu Akasaki when he received the Kyoto Prize in 2009 to recognize outstanding research in the field of compound semiconductor electronics.
Prof. Akasaki is one of the three 2014 Nobel Physics Prize laureates for his invention of GaN-based blue LED. He is also an alumni of Chemistry Department, School of Science, Kyoto University.
